Tell us how tourist tax is managed for your homes, so we can calculate and apply it correctly to your bookings.

Tourist tax may also be referred to as climate tax, occupancy tax, visitor levy, city tax or cultural tax, depending on the location.

How tourist tax works on Plum Guide

All hosts are required to report how tourist tax is managed for their homes on Plum Guide. This helps ensure guests are charged the correct amount when they book and aren’t faced with unexpected additional charges later or when they arrive.

How the tax is handled depends on the location of your home:

  • In some locations, such as Paris, Plum Guide is responsible for remitting tourist tax to the relevant local authority on your behalf. In these cases, the tax is not included in your host payout.

  • In most other locations, tourist tax is included in your host payout. You’ll be able to see it separately in your earnings breakdown and will be responsible for managing it as required locally.

Note: Plum Guide’s platform fee is not charged on tourist tax.

Tell us how you manage tourist tax

To update your tourist tax settings:

  1. Log in to Plum Guide and head to Account > Taxes

  2. Scroll down to the Tourist tax section, and choose the option that describes how you currently manage it.

  3. If you want Plum Guide to calculate and charge these for you, select the final option and you'll be prompted to add your rates (see next section).

How to add your rates for Plum Guide to calculate and charge tourist tax

If you select “Plum Guide will charge tourist tax on my behalf as part of the booking”, you’ll be asked to add the tourist tax rates and rules that apply to your homes.

Select “Add new rates” in the box that appears below the selected option to get started. For each new rate you add, you will be asked to:

  1. Name the tourist tax rate for guests to see

  2. Select how the tax is calculated

  3. Enter the rate set by your local authority – this can be a percentage or a fixed amount

  4. Add a limit on the number of nights tourist tax applies to, if applicable

  5. Choose which homes this rate and rules applies to

  6. Save your tourist tax rate

Plum Guide will use the information you provide to calculate the tourist tax and charge it to guests as part of their booking.

If different rates or rules apply to your other homes, add a separate tourist tax rate for each.
